Blackpaws Kennels was established in 1998 by my father and I later joined the team once I graduated from high school. My father and I have been hunting with hounds for a combined 40 years. Our kennel is located in Northwestern Wisconsin so we are able to hunt our dogs on many different types of big game. We start our year during the months of July and August training our dogs during the bear training season followed by our harvest season in September and October. We then wait patiently for snow to arrive to hit the woods in search of bobcats. Our bobcat season runs until January 1st. Occasionally we hit the road and head west to Colorado to try our luck at mountain lion hunting. We finish the year by chasing a few coyotes around to keep the dogs in shape and start some younger pups before our bear training season starts all over again.
Here at Blackpaws Kennels we do not have any papered dogs. We run the best we can find and the best we can train. I am a firm believer in putting your time and good things will happen. We generally do not buy started dogs, we train our own. We hunt with a very good group of dedicated and experienced hunters so finding a good cross of pups to start is not too difficult.
At Blackpaws Kennels we also offer hound training on bear. We train mornings and evenings from the beginning of July until the end of August. There will be multiple chances for your hound to be trained with other experienced and well trained hounds. Please see the training page for more details on our hound training.
Blackpaws Kennels also offers Fully Guided Black Bear and Bobcat hunts in northern Wisconsin. We only book a certain number of hunts to ensure an exciting but successful hunt. Please see Guided Hunts page for some recent pictures of some bear and bobcats harvested by some recent hunters.
